We have less than 1,000 years to escape planet earth or face extinction

– Professor Stephen Hawking.

I read this in the newspaper last week and It was enough for my mind to start brainstorming, Why one of the world’s smartest man is saying that the future of humanity lies in space !? why he said that we must plan our escape over the next few centuries !? Is the human race is going to extinct? Will it extinct? Whether I will get a chance to see human colonies on other planets in my lifespan or not? { Yes, I think a lot }

And I read one more news today which made me think: do we really have 1,000 years ? or we have just 100 or fewer years?

The news was :

“We estimate that Pakistan now has a nuclear weapons stockpile of 130-140 warheads, ” said the report released last month.

According to the scientists, with several delivery systems in development, four plutonium production reactors and its uranium enrichment facilities expanding, Pakistan’s stockpile will possibly increase further over the next 10 years.

I don’t know how many of you are aware of the fact that

Even a regional war of nuclear detonations would produce 5 teragrams of black soot (that’s 5,000,000,000 kg!) that would rise up to Earth’s stratosphere and block sunlight. This would produce a sudden drop in global temperatures that could last longer than 25 years and temporarily destroy much of the Earth’s protective ozone layer. This could also cause as much as an 80% increase in UV radiation on Earth’s surface and destroy both land and sea-based ecosystems, potentially leading to global nuclear famine.

{Source: A 2014 report published in the journal Earths Future }

I think every country and every official involve in nuclear programs must be aware of this fact but still, no one seems to stop making nukes. Though nuclear weapons are capable of causing human extinction, There are nine countries which rely upon these weapons for their so-called “national security.” And these countries are continuing to modernize their nukes and failing to fulfill their legal and moral obligations to achieve a Nuclear Zero world.

There are many reports which estimate that there are more than 15,000 nuclear weapons around the world; the U.S. and Russia possess 93 percent of them. Of course, the exact number is a closely guarded secret.

But I don’t really understand the reason behind this. If the use of the fraction of existing nukes can cause catastrophe then why these countries are making nuclear weapons and leading the human race towards extinction !?

The irony is that we are wasting trillions of dollars, precious time of brightest minds of our time on planning our own extinction.

I’m a super optimistic person but I don’t really believe that all leaders of all nuclear-armed countries will act rationally at all times.

Sorry to say, but we are heading toward the extinction. All we can do is to hope for the best ✌

I hope Nuclear Zero World will come to reality and these countries will start using their resources and power to tackle other global problems.

  1. What good can come from power and politics…..Nations talk of patriotism and that after a point starts verging on jingoism…..Preserving oneself while destroying others has been a major mover and shaker in history…..

  6. This sentence of yours is TRUE – “Irony is that we are wasting zillions of dollars, precious time of brightest minds of our time on planning our own extinction.”.

    I too can’t understand how big developing countries are busy wasting millions and billions, to make Nuclear Weapons, which could destroy the Earth.

    If there would be a 3rd World War, it will probably be the Last War on planet Earth.

    Countries make these weapons, knowing fully well that the people operating these weapons themselves will die.

    WHY MAKE HATE?

    1. The problem is that every country want others to take a step back .. but no one is willing to take initiative .. well it’s difficult to others .. that’s the problem with humanity ..

  7. This line ‘Irony is that we are wasting zillions of dollars, precious time of brightest minds of our time on planning our own extinction.’ is cent percent correct. But then there are countries like Pakistan and other terrorist related ones, which neither believe in living peacefully not letting live others that way. Then there are countries like USA who are too egoistic to let any other country surpass them. Maybe just from the view of ‘Self-defense’, many countries might have opt for nuclear power. So, if even a single country has this power, then we can’t expect Nuclear power to be gone from our system.

    1. I know and I completely understand this scenario .. but knowing that less than 100 nukes are sufficient to destroy human race, why US & Russia are making thousands of them !?
      You pointed out right .. we can’t live peacefully with countries like Pakistan .. we can’t except to all Supreme heads of nuclear powered countries to act sane in all situations .. but if same thing is going to continue .. we must start thinking about alternative options to save humanity ..

      Thank you for stopping by and sharing your thoughts here 😊

      1. US and Russia has become more about its ego, which probably is their reason for creating endless nukes!

      2. Yes, ego is a big issue with nations which are always in a tensed-threatening & trying-to-be-friends-but-want-to-be-more-dominating ….
        God knows where this rivalries are going to take humanity in the future

  11. We are closer to the brink than ever we were. I remember it being announced on the radio that the ‘Doomsday Clock’ had been set at three minutes to midnight back in the 1980s. It was set at two minutes to midnight last January; the closest we have ever been. It remains unchanged. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doomsday_Clock

    1. Do you know what’s happening in the Indian subcontinent right now? If things keep escalating like this, we might witness the war between two nuclear powers and there are speculations that it might turn into a world war if China enters to support Pakistan.
